I took the COVID Vaccine. This is what happened

In this together to win over COVID-19

I have been looking for 18+ adults who took the vax and I realised not many people have shared their own vaccine experience which is why I decided to share mine. Hopefully, with this real insight you will feel prepared when it’s your day of vaccine.

Albeit countless times, I resented the idea of getting inoculated, eventually I registered myself on http://www.cowin.gov.in After trying for hours, I got a slot purely by chance. I know so many more of you (including my family) are trying and will keep trying for a long time. Should we not grab any opportunity life gives us in a time where we can succumb to the onslaught of the virus anytime?

On May, 13th 2021 I had the privilege to get my first dose of vaccine. I don’t have a picture of the monumental moment since only people with appointment were allowed inside and I didn’t want to trouble the already occupied staff for a minuscule thing as this. In a time, where zillion people are glued to their phone all day and yet see no available slot, where random slots are opening at odd hours and filling up even before you click on it, I feel it is really a privilege, an achievement!

Vaccine - Covishield (SERUM INSTITUTE OF INDIA)
Site - Max Hospital, Gurgaon

  • The vaccine site is an open and well ventilated area.
  • Carry a pen for filling up forms
  • The entire process was smooth and organised with all COVID appropriate protocols implemented by the hospital.
  • There are designated areas for every protocol, sanitiser at every corner and very helpful staff who are ensuring social distance is being maintained, not letting people crowd up or jump their token numbers.
  • The billing counter was well ordered and no rush.

Pre-vaccine, the nurse ensured if I had my breakfast and came well hydrated. She also listed out a couple of possible side effects I might experience later at night – body ache, fever, headache, fatigue and advised to take paracetamol or DOLO when it’s absolutely necessary to combat them.

The inoculation was painless. I didn’t feel it more than a prick. Immediately, I felt a sense of relief and I wanted to hug the nurse so tightly and thank her but of course I couldn’t. Post jab, I was under observation for 30 minutes seated in a separate waiting area.

I came back home and surprisingly didn’t feel any pain nor any other side effect for next 20 hours. Had enough energy to run after my toddler the usual way. For not having any symptom, I slept with a sceptic mind that night.

The next morning I woke up in a terrible shape. My body embraced every post effect of the vaccine. Headache to weakness, back pain to fever and it only got worse. Took a pill and rested for the day. But my mind was at peace for I then knew I was given the vaccine and not substitute !

Look forward to the next dose!
